On the first day of your journey, depart from Kathmandu and drive towards the Tibetan border to Kerung (2,800 meters /9,186 feet), a small town in Tibet’s Rasuwa district. Located about 175 km from Kathmandu, this scenic route will offer views of the majestic Langtang Valley. The journey will take you through lush valleys and picturesque landscapes, introducing you to the natural beauty of the region. As you near Kerung, the towering peaks of the Himalayas will become more prominent, giving you a glimpse of the adventure that lies ahead.
Your journey continues from Kerung to Tingri (4,300 meters /14,108 feet), a small town known for its stunning views of the Himalayas. This drive takes you through high mountain passes and offers breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks. As you pass through the picturesque landscape, you’ll cross Gyatchu La Pass, famous for its panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, deep valleys, and clear blue skies. The road is rugged, but the mesmerizing landscape makes the journey worthwhile, leading you to Tingri, where you can catch your first full glimpse of Everest in the distance.
On third day your journey takes you from Tingri to Shigatse (3,836 meters /12,585 feet), passing through the famous Rongbuk (4,980 meters/16,340 feet) Monastery, located near the base of Mt. Everest. The drive is both awe-inspiring and challenging, offering views of the towering peaks of the Himalayas, including the mighty Everest. Rongbuk, the highest monastery in the world, provides stunning views of Everest, and visiting it is a highlight for many travelers. After visiting Rongbuk Monastery, you continue your journey to Shigatse, Tibet's second-largest city, known for its rich history and cultural significance. In Shigatse, you’ll have the opportunity
to visit the Tashilhunpo Monastery, the seat of the Panchen Lama, and immerse yourself in the traditions of Tibetan Buddhism. The town also offers vibrant markets and an authentic glimpse into Tibetan life.
Forth day you travel from Shigatse to Gyantse (4,000 meters/13,123 feet), a journey that takes you through some of the most stunning landscapes in Tibet. Gyantse is known for its historical and cultural significance, including the Kumbum Stupa and Pelkor Chode Monastery. The Kumbum Stupa, with its 108 small chapels, is particularly famous for its intricate murals and sculptures, offering a deep dive into Tibetan Buddhist art and history. In Gyantse, you'll also enjoy breathtaking views from the Kumba Pass, where you can take in the sight of the surrounding mountains and crystal-clear waters. The town is rich in history and offers a peaceful atmosphere, perfect for exploring and experiencing the unique Tibetan culture. You'll continue your journey from Gyantse to Lhasa 3,650 meters /11,975 feet), passing through spectacular landscapes and picturesque Tibetan countryside. The drive will take you through dramatic mountain passes and valleys, with stunning views of the Yamdrok Tso Lake, one of the most beautiful lakes in Tibet, often referred to as the “Turquoise Lake” due to its striking blue color. Along the way, you may also cross the Kambala Pass, where you can stop to admire the lake and surrounding peaks. This is a peaceful and scenic leg of the journey, allowing for plenty of opportunities to capture the natural beauty of the region. Upon reaching Lhasa, you’ll be ready to explore the cultural and spiritual heart of Tibet, with its iconic landmarks awaiting your arrival.
