Itinerary

Day 1

As your flight approaches Bhutan, savor stunning views of the Himalayas, including the revered Chomolhari and Jichu Drake peaks. Upon arrival at the airport, a representative from AAN will accompany you to your Thimphu hotel for a restful night. If your early flight arrival prompts a desire to explore Thimphu, arrangements can be made accordingly. Overnight in Thimphu.

Driving: 1 Hrs
Day 2

Visit Changangkha Lhakhang and the National Memorial Chorten in Thimphu, then drive to Punakha. If time permits, visit the Folk Heritage Museum. After lunch, drive to Punakha, stopping at Chimi Lhakhang, a fertility temple dedicated to the Divine Madman. In Punakha, visit Punakha Dzong, the second oldest and second largest dzong in Bhutan. Overnight in Punakha.

Driving: 2-3 Hrs
Day 3

From Punakha, drive to Phobjikha via Wangdue Phodrang. Enjoy the scenic drive through tropical trees, passing small villages. Cross the Pele La pass at 3,300m and take the road leading to Phobjikha. The valley is wide and picturesque, with Gangtey Gompa situated on a hill, offering a stunning view. Phobjikha valley serves as the winter habitat for black-necked cranes, migrating from Tibet in early November and staying until the second week of March. Overnight in Phobjikha.

Driving: 3 Hrs
Day 4

Visit Gangtey Monastery in the morning, then drive to Bumthang after breakfast, known as the cultural heartland of Bhutan. Cross Pele La pass once again, descending through meadows, valleys, and villages, enjoying the scenic Bhutanese countryside. Pass by Chendeji Chorten, built in the 15th century in a Nepalese architectural style. Stop at Trongsa for lunch, visit its dzong, and continue the drive to Bumthang. Overnight in Bumthang.

Driving: 5-6 Hrs
Day 5

Today starts with a hike to Tamshing Monastery, Bhutan's oldest monastic school. Explore Bumthang's cultural treasures, including Kurjey Lhakhang with the imprint of a demon's body slain by Guru Rinpoche. Visit Jambay Lhakhang and Jakar Dzong. After lunch, embark on a second hike to Thangbi Valley. If fortunate, witness the Yak Festival. Overnight in Bumthang.

Day 6

As our flight approaches Paro, relish breathtaking views of the Himalayas, featuring the sacred Chomolhari and Jichu Drake peaks. Explore Paro's landmarks, starting with Rinpung Dzong, meaning 'fortress of the heap of jewels.' Visit Kichu Lhakhang, the country's oldest temple. Proceed to Drugyal Dzong (Bhutan Victory Fort), built in 1646 to commemorate Bhutan's triumph over Tibetan invaders in the 1600s. On a clear day, catch a glimpse of Mount Chomolhari, Bhutan's second-highest peak at 7,314 meters. Overnight in Paro.

Day 7

Following breakfast, embark on a 4 to 5-hour hike to Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest) Monastery, Bhutan’s renowned sanctuary nestled at 3,180 meters. According to legend, Guru Rinpoche flew on a tigress's back to meditate in a cave, the site of the present Taktsang Monastery. Enjoy lunch at the Cafeteria Restaurant halfway up the mountain. After exploring the monastery, descend to the valley floor. Overnight in Paro.

Hiking: 4-5 Hrs
Day 8

Druk Air typically departs in the early morning to mitigate adverse weather conditions. Following breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport according to the flight schedule.
