The Tibet Tour with Everest Base Camp and Kailash" begins in Lhasa, where we explore the Potala and Norbulingka palaces, former homes of the Dalai Lama, along with major monasteries and the bustling Barkhor Bazaar. We drive across the Tibetan plateau to Shigatse, Sakya, and Rongbuk, discovering fascinating monasteries and fortresses. Rongbuk Monastery, located near the base of Everest, is the world's highest monastery. This comprehensive tour also takes us to Everest Base Camp, the highest mountain in the planet. We then visit Mansarovar Lake, a sacred site rich in Buddhist and Hindu legends. The Kailash kora starts on the tenth day and lasts for three days. By the end of the tour, we will have marveled at Tibet's extraordinary landscape, rich culture, and deep spirituality.

Itinerary

Day 1

Upon arrival in Lhasa, a Himalayan Glacier representative will greet us at the airport and transfer us to our hotel. Instead, we can reach Lhasa via the train from mainland China. After checking, we will spend the remainder of the day resting in our hotel to acclimate to Lhasa's high altitude. Overnight stay in Lhasa.

Day 2

After breakfast, we start our sightseeing tour of Lhasa. Our itinerary includes the stunning Potala Palace and Norbulingka Palace. The Potala Palace, dating back to the 17th century, contains the Dalai Lama's private quarters, along with numerous grand state rooms and chapels, and offers excellent views of the entire city. Norbulingka Palace, the summer residence of the Dalai Lama, features the largest man-made garden in Tibet. We also visit the Tibet Traditional Hospital, the leading center for Tibetan medicine treatment, training, research, and production. We will spend the night in Lhasa.

Day 3

After breakfast, we visit several significant sites in Lhasa: Drepung Monastery, Sera Monastery, Jokhang Temple, and Barkhor Bazaar. Drepung Monastery, founded in the 14th century, once housed around shelters for 10,000 monks. This monastery is a key center of Tibetan history, culture, and religious beliefs. Sera Monastery, known for its white-washed walls and golden roofs, is well-preserved and quaint. Jokhang Temple, another vital sacred site, reveals deeper mysteries of Tibetan Buddhism. We also explore Barkhor Bazaar, the bustling heart of Lhasa, with its with its street vendors, shops, and throngs of pilgrims. Overnight in Lhasa.

Day 4

After breakfast, we start a day on a scenic drive to Shigatse, the second largest city in Tibet, passing through Gyantse. Our journey takes us over the Khamba La Pass (4,794m), where we are treated to mesmerizing views of Yomdrok-Tso (Turquoise Lake), one of Tibet's sacred lakes. Continuing westward, we traverse the Karo La Pass (5,045m), offering stunning vistas of magnificent glaciers. In Gyantse, we explore the Khumbum Stupa, Phalkot Monastery, and the well-preserved Gyantse Dzong . From Gyantse, we proceed to Shigatse, enjoying the captivating mountain landscapes along the way. We will spend the night in Shigatse.

Day 5

After breakfast, we depart from Shigatse towards Rongbuk. Along the way, we stop to explore Sakya Monastery, the ancestral temple of the Sakyapa sect of Tibetan Buddhism. Following our visit to Sakya Monastery, we proceed with our journey towards Rongbuk. Here, we visit Rongbuk Monastery, situated at the base of the majestic Everest and renowned as the highest monastery globally. During our time here, we immerse ourselves in the breathtaking mountain scenery that surrounds us. We will spend the night in Rongbuk.

Day 6

Standing in such close proximity to the world's highest peak is absolutely thrilling. We dedicate the entire day to exploring the base camp area, capturing memorable photographs. Spending a full day at Everest Base Camp is not only awe-inspiring but also essential for acclimatization. We can hike and discover the picturesque hills nearby, surrounded by the towering peaks of the Himalayas. We will stay overnight at Everest Base Camp, soaking in the majestic atmosphere of this iconic location.

Day 7

We depart from Everest Base Camp after breakfast, beginning our journey towards Saga. Our route takes us through stunning landscapes, passing by the picturesque Paigu-Tso Lake. As we continue our drive, we ascend the Yarlung La pass, where we are treated to breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. After crossing the Yarlung La pass, we descend towards Saga, a charming small town nestled in the Tibetan plateau. By late afternoon or early evening, we arrive in Saga, where we can unwind and immerse ourselves in the local Tibetan culture. Our accommodation for the night is arranged in Saga, allowing us to rest and rejuvenate after a day of scenic driving and exploration.

Day 8

We depart from Saga in the morning, embarking on a scenic drive towards Lake Manasarovar. Our route takes us through the vast Tibetan plateau, offering panoramic views of rugged mountains and expansive plains. En route, we may pass by small Tibetan villages, where locals go about their daily lives against the backdrop of the Himalayas. As we continue our journey, the landscape gradually transforms, and we catch our first glimpses of Lake Manasarovar, shimmering in the distance. Known for its spiritual significance in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism, Lake Manasarovar holds a tranquil aura that captivates visitors. Upon reaching Lake Manasarovar, we take in the serene beauty of its clear waters and the sacred Mount Kailash towering nearby. This is a moment for reflection and reverence, as pilgrims and travelers alike gather to experience the profound spirituality of this holy lake. We settle in our accommodation near Lake Manasarovar, allowing us time to absorb the peaceful atmosphere and prepare for the next leg of our journey. Overnight stay near Lake Manasarovar provides a chance to witness the sunset and sunrise over this sacred body of water, enhancing the spiritual journey we embarked upon from Saga.

Day 9

From the serene shores of Lake Manasarovar, our journey continues towards Darchen. Nestled at the foot of Mount Kailash, Darchen serves as the gateway to one of the most revered pilgrimages in the world. The drive offers stunning views of the Himalayan peaks and the rugged Tibetan landscape. Upon arrival in Darchen, we prepare for the upcoming spiritual trek around Mount Kailash or explore the local markets and monasteries. Darchen's peaceful ambiance and proximity to Mount Kailash make it an ideal starting point for those seeking both adventure and spiritual fulfillment in this sacred region.

Day 10

Today, we embark on an exhilarating hike from Darchen to Dira Puk Monastery, marking the first day of the Mount Kailash kora (circumambulation). The trail offers stunning vistas of the surrounding mountains and valleys, as well as an up-close view of the sacred Mount Kailash. Our journey begins with a gradual ascent, passing through rocky terrain and alongside pristine streams. Along the way, we encounter fellow pilgrims and trekkers, each drawn by the spiritual significance of this sacred path. Prayer flags flutter in the breeze, adding to the serene and meditative atmosphere. As we progress, the imposing north face of Mount Kailash comes into view, inspiring awe and reverence. The final stretch of the hike leads us to Dira Puk Monastery, nestled in a tranquil spot with breathtaking views of the holy mountain. Upon reaching the monastery, we take time to rest and reflect, surrounded by the peaceful ambiance of this sacred site. The evening is spent in simple accommodation near the monastery, allowing us to fully appreciate the spiritual energy of Mount Kailash and prepare for the next leg of our pilgrimage.

Day 11

On the second day of our Kora, we hike from Dira Puk Monastery to Dzutul-puk Monastery. This is the most challenging part of the pilgrimage, starting with a steep ascent to the Dolma-La Pass, the highest point at 5,630 meters (18,471 feet). The climb is tough, but the views and spiritual significance are inspiring. At the pass, adorned with prayer flags, we pause for rest and reflection. We then descend carefully towards the Lham Chu Valley, passing the sacred Gauri Kund. The trail gradually eases as we approach Dzutul-puk Monastery, named after a legendary battle involving the Tibetan saint Milarepa. We spend the night in simple accommodations, reflecting on our journey and the day's spiritual experiences.

Day 12

The final stretch from Dzutul-puk involves covering approximately 10 kilometers on foot, leaving behind the serene and sacred landscapes with their rich spiritual significance and tranquil beauty. Upon completing the circumambulation, we head towards Darchen by vehicle. In Darchen, we reunite with the participants who were unable to complete the kora, ensuring that everyone is together for the next phase of our journey. From Darchen, we embark on a drive to Saga. The drive offers a transition from the spiritual heights of Mount Kailash to the more familiar and comforting environment of Saga. In Saga, we spend the night, resting and reflecting on the profound experiences of our pilgrimage. Overnight in Saga.

Day 13

The journey from Saga to Shigatse unfolds through a landscape of stunning contrasts and captivating beauty. Departing from Saga, we traverse vast plains and rolling hills, gradually approaching the more urbanized area of Shigatse. As the second-largest city in Tibet, Shigatse offers a blend of historical and cultural richness, with the iconic Tashilhunpo Monastery standing as a testament to its spiritual heritage. This leg of our trip not only bridges the remote and the metropolitan but also allows us to reflect on our pilgrimage's transition from the rugged wilderness to the heart of Tibetan civilization. Upon arrival in Shigatse, we settle in, eager to explore the city's treasures and rest in the comfort of its accommodations.

Day 14

The road journey from Shigatse to Lhasa traverses some of Tibet's most breathtaking landscapes, offering a glimpse into the region's rugged beauty and cultural richness. Departing from Shigatse, we embark on a scenic route that winds through mountain passes, expansive valleys, and traditional Tibetan villages. Along the way, we pass notable landmarks such as the Yamdrok Lake, a stunning turquoise gem nestled amidst snow-capped peaks, and the historic Karola Glacier, showcasing nature's grandeur. The road trip not only provides opportunities for awe-inspiring views but also allows us to appreciate the spiritual significance of monasteries like the Gyantse Kumbum and the Tashilhunpo Monastery.
