During this delightful dinner, we will have the opportunity to savor authentic Nepalese cuisine, giving a taste of the rich culinary culture of the country. Enjoy overnight stay in Kathmandu.
We'll start our day with a long day journey from Kathmandu to Dhap. We'll start from a high place near Dhap, and as we get closer to Sigane, we'll see the Numbur Himal peaks, which we'll become very familiar with, part of the Himalayan Range. In the beginning, the path to Sigane follows a road that's being built. The first village we'll reach is Japre. It sits above a deep valley and offers lovely views of Everest and Numbur Himal. This is where we'll spend the night, and it has a cute little stupa and gompa.
After Bhulbhule, the path splits, and we'll turn right to Pikey Peak. We'll pass some old yak houses and a long mani stone wall. Then the trail goes along the hillside unFrom Japre, the path goes up to a grassy ridge at Bhulbhule. There's one lodge here with nice der TaklungDanda through a pretty forested trail. There are lots of rhododendrons along a flat trail, which we can see in bloom if you hike in the spring. It takes about two hours to reach Pikey Peak base camp once you leave the forest. The top, at 4065 m/13336 ft, can be reached after a short climb. It's best to climb to the top in the morning to see the sunrise, unless the evening is exceptionally clear.
We'll trek up a steady trail decorated with prayer flags, starting early in the morning. The views are breathtaking! If the weather is clear, we'll enjoy sweeping vistas of the Himalayas, from Kanchenjunga to Annapurna. After reaching the peak, we'll follow a ridgeline that starts off level but gets steeper as you enter the forest. We'll reach JaseBhanjyang, where breakfast awaits, from the summit of Pikey Peak. After breakfast, we'll continue your descent to Loding, which involves some uphill sections through the forest. There are a few simple yet charming lodging options to choose from in Loding.
Early, we'll head down the slope to JaseBhanjyang for breakfast. There are several ways to descend to Junbesi from there. One of the most scenic routes is a steep detour through stunning old-growth forest to Taktor, shortly after leaving the ridge near Jase. This path intersects with the Everest Base Camp trail from Jiri. Tea houses are a bit more developed here, and we might meet some new travelers. From Taktor, a lovely path leads you to Junbesi in about two hours. Junbesi is a historic Sherpa settlement and is considered the cradle of Sherpa culture and architecture. The Solukhumbu region holds sacred significance for the Sherpas. Buddhism flourishes in this remote part of Nepal, bordering Tibet, and we'll encounter many Buddhist monasteries along the way.
We embark on our journey to Taksindu this morning. At the town's lower end, cross the river, then walk through the jungle to Salung. If the weather is clear, we can catch sight of Mount Everest (8848 m/29,028 ft), Chamlang (7319 m/24,012 ft), and Makalu (8481 m/27,824 ft) from there. We'll also enjoy beautiful views down to Phaplu and across the valley to Chiwong Monastery.
Continue along the trail as it winds and descends to a stream, then briefly ascends into Ringmo. This town is famous for its apple orchards and unique apple products like apple rakshi (alcohol), cider, and apple pie. After a short descent to the Taksindu Monastery, where we'll stay, there's one last little climb to Taksindu La, offering more stunning mountain views. The Taksindu Monastery, built in 1946, is usually open in the morning or late in the day. If we visit, please consider leaving a donation.
Today, opt for a delightful forest trail leading to Phaplu instead of sticking to the main trekking route. We can also hike up to Chiwong Gompa, situated on a rock above the valley. This monastery, founded in 1923, hosts the spectacular Mani Rimdu festival every autumn. As we descend into Phaplu, take a break at a cozy tea house to commemorate the end of a fantastic hike.
Today marks our farewell to the mountains as we hop back into our car and descend towards the Kathmandu Valley. Following a lengthy drive, we'll be drop off at our hotel in Kathmandu, leaving with the remainder of the evening to relax and unwind.
