A day trip is a travel where a person visits a location and then returns home the same day. A trip to a tourist destination or visitor attraction from one's home, hotel, or hostel is known as a day trip. In medieval times, a day's destination could be religious, such as a nearby shrine, or commercial, such as a seasonal fair. Thereafter, in England, visits to day trip by persons who considered themselves middle class became more common, and it became customary to tip the butler or housekeeper.
In the mid-nineteenth century, the entrance of the train excursion, which often used Day Tripper tickets, saw the
rise of day-tripper industry. While all of the above still exist, modern day-trippers are more likely to travel by automobile as a result of the rise in vehicle ownership.
